Victoria Falls Climate & Weather
The water levels of the Zambezi river rise and fall, impacting rafting activities at the Falls. The low water season lasts from the middle of July, when the water level starts dropping, to the beginning of January when it reaches its lowest level. Then the water levels start rising even though the rains have begun in November. The high water season commences in February and the highest water levels are reached sometime around Easter. The low water season is the most exciting for those of you who are after water rafting. Rafting is stopped from around the middle of March to the beginning of May as the Zambezi is in full spate during this period.
During the rainy season, between November and April, the lower regions of the National Park are not accessible. In this period, the ‘Green Season Island Trail' runs from Kafue to Chongwe.
There best time to travel to Victoria Falls depends on what you are after. If you are one of those who wants to see a big curtain of water over the falls then the best time to visit is during the high water season which is between February and May. On the other hand if you are after a rafting experience and also want to see the lower regions of the Victoria Falls National Park then the low water season is what you are after and this is from mid July to beginning of January.
