Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Shoestrings has several measures in place to sustain tourism and the local people.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The local street kids are sponsored once a month to clean up the area surrounding the lodge.
An on-going house training is in place and Shoestrings has introduced a cooperative at the lodge, a market where the staff sell curios and beads. It is owned and managed by the staff for extra income.
There are a variety of traditional dances and drummers at the lodge.
Shoestrings is probably the most culturally diverse place in Victoria Falls. It is great place for local people and tourists to interact. Guitar sessions, singing and drums are a regular occurrence with the Shoestrings family.
