Courtesy transfers are provided from any point within Vic Falls Town.
Maximum age: There is no maximum age limit; however operators retain the right to refuse to take a client who is clearly going to be unable to cope with the rigors of rafting.
Clients are given the option between an “oar boat” and a “paddle boat”. An “oar boat” is controlled and manoeuvred by the guide using “12 foot-long” oars from the middle of the raft. Guests are seated in the front and rear of the raft and hold onto the safety line around the perimeter of the raft. A “paddle boat” requires the passengers to actively assist the guide in manoeuvring the raft through the rapids and the calm stretches. They are seated around the perimeter of the boat and all paddle, but do not hold onto the safety line.
Rafting Full Day - Low Water Season
The Zambezi River in Victoria Falls provides two playgrounds. The upper Zambezi River is ideal for canoeing, cruising and birdwatching. Approximately 1 mile wide, the river flows serenely towards the Victoria Falls, where it falls 100 m down into the Batoka Gorge and funnels its way through the narrow gorge, a mere 100 metres wide. Now confined within the gorge, the river continues pushing through the steep basalt rocks, forging its way and forming some of the best white water rapids in the world: the second playground and the penultimate rafting experience - Zambezi White Water Rafting!
Your low water rafting adventure begins just below the falls at rapid #1 and takes you on a 26 km journey over 19 rapids. The river is a pool drop river, which means you will have sections of relatively calm water in between the rapids; a great time to take in the scenery around you. The biggest rapids on the Zambezi River are officially defined as Grade 5 by the British Canoe Union (Grade 6 being commercially labeled as too dangerous to run).
An adrenaline-filled day is guaranteed and a white water rafting adventure on the Zambezi River must not be missed!
Guests will be collected by courtesy vehicle and transferred to the top of the gorge for a detailed safety briefing; they will be issued safety equipment, life jackets and helmets.
Following the briefing guests will climb down the pathway to rapid #1, just below the boiling pot at the foot of the falls. Rafting starts at #1 and continues to rapid #11, where guests will take a break on a sandy beach and enjoy a fruit snack and drink.
The day continues from rapid #11 finishing at rapid #19.
At this point guests will make the steep climb out of the gorge, taking the time to enjoy the views and an ice-cold beer/mineral water at the top.
Lunch and ice cold drinks are served, after which guests will be transferred back to town.
Expected drop-off time in Vic Falls is 14:30 – 15:00.
Participant guidelines
Clients should be reasonably fit for this activity, as there is a fairly steep rocky walk into and out of the Batoka Gorge, as well as the white water rafting activity. The walk out is approximately 750 feet to the top of the gorge and requires a reasonable degree of fitness.
What to wear:
We recommend that you wear a swim suit, t-Shirt, shorts or cycling pants. Trainers or rafting sandals are ideal and a peak cap will fit comfortably under your helmet. Do not forget to apply sunscreen. Wear something that cannot be sucked off! (Bikinis are not advisable!)
BRING AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!
DO NOT BRING VALUABLES WITH YOU.
