Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:  

The lodge's main area of focus is the environment. In fact, Lokuthula Lodges has received the Green Destination Award for outstanding Environmental Performance.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The lodges were assessed on their environmental performance against each of the 13 agenda areas defined for the Tourism Industry by the World Travel and Tourism Council, World Tourism Organisation and the Earth Council. These included involving staff, customers and communities in environmental issues.

The lodges were built using thatch and commercially grown Eucalyptus poles to ensure that the site remained ecologically sound and undisturbed.
